ESTAU turns ten, and Estarreja counts a hundred works
Estarreja's urban art festival runs 12 to 20 September, a decade after it started. Ten artists are painting, and the town's permanent collection is already close to a hundred pieces.

Lisbon, Portugal

AkaCorleone is Pedro Campiche, born in Lisbon in 1985, of Portuguese and Swiss descent. He came up writing graffiti in the city in the early 2000s, studied art and took a degree in design and visual communication, then worked as a graphic designer before giving that up for illustration and his own work. Murals followed from 2008, and his first gallery show in 2010.
The style is immediately legible: saturated colour, typography treated as shape rather than as words, characters pulled apart and put back together slightly wrong, and a streak of humour that stops the geometry turning cold. He describes the work as a balance between the analogue and the digital, and it reads as comics, graphic design and abstraction all arriving at the same wall.
More recently the work has moved towards things that last longer than paint: sculpture, tile and ceramics. He has shown in fifteen countries, including Faux Pas at Kolly Gallery in Geneva in 2022, Templo da Luz in Belo Horizonte in 2023, and Out of My Control at Underdogs in Lisbon in 2025.
