The Jazz Cafe sits on Parkway in Camden Town and has been a fixture of London's live music circuit since 1990. What started as a dedicated jazz room is now one of the city's best-known mid-size venues, with a standing floor downstairs and a restaurant balcony that looks straight onto the stage — the same bill works as a loud night out or a seated meal.
The two-level layout is what makes it good for events: an intimate capacity, clear sightlines from the balcony, and a professional PA in a room that still feels like a club rather than a hall. Programming runs well beyond straight-ahead jazz — soul, funk, hip-hop, world music, singer-songwriters and left-field pop all pass through regularly — so a typical week mixes heritage names with new bookings.
Camden itself is the other reason to go. The venue is a few minutes from Camden Town station and a short walk from the market and the canal, which makes it an easy stop on a night out rather than a destination you have to plan around. If you want a classic London gig in a room with its own character, this is one of the reliable ones.
