Trans-Pecos is one of New York City's most committed DIY venues — a small, unadorned space in Ridgewood, Queens, that has operated since 2013 as a home for experimental, noise, post-punk, avant-garde, and otherwise difficult-to-categorise music. With a capacity of around 100 to 150, it is the kind of venue where the distance between performer and audience collapses entirely, and where the programming follows a genuinely curatorial logic rather than commercial booking patterns.
The name references the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas — arid, remote, and resistant to easy categorisation. That spirit carries through the programming, which includes one-person experimental projects, touring noise acts, free jazz, hardcore, drone, and combinations of all of these that don't fit elsewhere. Trans-Pecos has been a consistent supporter of artists working in spaces that don't generate obvious commercial return, and the venue functions as much as a community hub as a music space.
It sits in Ridgewood, a neighbourhood in Queens that borders Brooklyn and has developed a dense concentration of DIY spaces, artist studios, and small venues over the past decade, in part as a result of artists priced out of Bushwick and Williamsburg.

Trans-Pecos is located on Wyckoff Avenue in Ridgewood, just over the border from Bushwick in Brooklyn. The surrounding blocks are a mix of residential rowhouses, small businesses, and the occasional studio or creative space that characterises this stretch of the Queens-Brooklyn border. Ridgewood has a slower pace and denser community feel than nearby Bushwick, and the venue's location reflects that — it's part of a neighbourhood rather than a designated arts district.
Trans-Pecos runs shows most weekends and occasional weeknights. Show times vary widely depending on the event — some start at 19:00 for shorter bills, others start at 21:00 or later for longer bills or DJ sets that follow. Tickets are generally between $8 and $20, with many events on a sliding scale or PWYW basis.
The space itself is minimal: a bar, a stage, and a standing room. There is no green room to speak of, no elaborate production setup, and no pretension to being anything other than what it is. Artists tend to respond well to this directness.
The main room is a rectangular space with the stage at one end, rough walls, and a sound system that punches considerably above the venue's visual weight. The intimacy of the space — 100 to 150 people maximum — means that even the most abstract or challenging programming lands differently here than in a larger room. There is nowhere to retreat from the sound, which is both the constraint and the point.
Trans-Pecos also maintains a small outdoor space that becomes usable during warmer months, providing an escape valve that keeps the internal atmosphere from becoming claustrophobic during busy events.
